Treatments for back acne
At the Advanced Acne Institute we use only the most effective therapies for treating acne on the back. We avoid the commonly presumed treatments such as topically applied medications because we know how ineffective they can be when used by themselves. Instead, our acne doctors prescribe medications that target the very source of back acne breakouts.
Our focused treatments for back acne include therapies that block hormones from causing acne. Medications such as spironolactone can work wonders in women with acne on the back. This medication blocks acne-causing hormones that stimulate the acne-prone oil glands to become overactive. This prevents the damaged pores from becoming full blown acne breakouts. The results of treatment with spironolactone can be quite dramatic.
Another therapy that is often used for treating acne on the backs includes isotretinoin. Also known by its original brand name Accutane, isotretinoin is the most effective medication of all in treating acne in the back. Although isotretinoin has some potential and controversial side effects, it is used frequently at the Advanced Acne Institute for patients suffering with the continual breakouts of acne on the back. Patients commonly respond very well to isotretinoin therapy and often experience complete acne clearing.
